The Basics...

So you're a new photographer or you're a hobbyist who is looking to fine tune their technique. I will tell you what worked and what did not work for me starting a photography business. Everyone is different and there is more than one direction that you can go if you want to learn enough to start business in photography.

First and foremost...

The first thing I did was watch as many free videos on learning how to shoot in manual mode. Youtube is an amazing resource, especially in an editing crisis. I have looked up how to remove things in photoshop and has saved the day on numerous occasions.

The second thing I did was as many free webinars on lighting and manual mode. I then checked out every book on photography from my local library.

Second thing I recommend is an online mentorship or in person from a photographer you admire. It will help learn exactly how photographers do things which will help you find a better workflow and not struggle like I did at first with consistency. Once you find that photographer, purchase their presets too. They are like a base edit that you will have to do many tweaks to, to leave your signature style.

Next..

Next grab some good lenses. Don't listen to anyone that says you don't need to invest in good lenses. The gear matters. My favorite camera is the Canon R6 and R6mkii. My fav lenses are the 85mm 1.2 and the 24-70 2.8 RF version.

Then you just need to do some free sessions and practice whenever you can, Go find photography locations, educate yourself on permit fees in the area. Even public parks have these. If you're charging a client money, you are deemed professional. Respect every area you walk into and always leave it how you found it.
